Malcolm Pittock: One of Bolton’s Own

If you grew up around Bolton, particularly Breightmet, there’s a good chance you remember Malcolm Pittock. He was one of those people who became part of the local landscape, often seen running along Bury Road in his trademark helmet.
Behind that familiar sight was a passion for running and a commitment to the sport that continued well into his later years. While many runners eventually hang up their trainers, Malcolm kept going. Running was a massive part of his life, and his achievements are something to be celebrated.
His connection with the local running community went beyond the races, too. Malcolm was a regular at Bolton Parkrun at Leverhulme Park and, in his later years, a much-loved volunteer at the event.
For some, he’ll always be remembered as the runner in the helmet. For others, it’ll be his running achievements or the familiar face counting the runners as they finished their 5K at Leverhulme Park.
Malcolm’s story is one worth celebrating. He kept turning up and gave his time to others, doing what he loved.
Malcolm Pittock was one of Bolton’s own. RIP mate.
